Make Your Next Paper a Great One: Tips from an APS Editor
The inner workings of a journal can seem like a black box: Who are the editors evaluating your paper and how do they make their decisions? In this talk, I’ll walk you through the editorial process of the Physical Review journals, a family of 14 physics journals from the American Physical Society (APS). I’ll provide tips on writing a good paper, crafting a strong cover letter, and responding to referee reports. I’ll also describe how editors select papers for “Editor Suggestions,” for publicizing to the press, or for coverage in the online magazine, Physics, where I am the Editor. I’ll finish by sharing why I said goodbye to the lab to pursue a job in science writing/editing and where that path has taken me. This talk is meant to be interactive, so please come with questions.
