Countries around the globe spend two trillion dollars on military budgets each year—twenty times more than climate finance or total foreign aid. There is no good reason for countries to spend so much on weapons and military personnel other than the fact that adversaries are doing it too. But there is a way out of this vicious circle: countries can negotiate a coordinated reduction of their military budgets, and redirect the massive savings to fight global emergencies at scale. I lead an association dedicated to this promoting this appeal, already signed by 54 Nobel laureates and 60,000 citizens around the world. In this talk I will try to convince you to join us.
